Difficult games for the IoW Team, but a result to be proud of. Facing a Team who have not dropped a game all season.

The Year Ahead.

(So Far)

Following the recent management meeting i have some updates.

League Secretary (Clayton Simpson) has published the league fixtures for this season. Vectis have had to change their home games to Fridays with a start time of 18:30.

The first round of The Mallet Cup will be held the week commencing Sunday the 11th of February. clayton will contact club secretaries requesting names of pairs in strength order so that the handicapping committee can begin gathering information on the players.

The first round of The Mallet Cup was drawn.

Freshwater V Westland

Newport V BCA

Wroxall V Ryde B

The semi final of The Mallet Cup will be held on Friday 12th April and the finals on Friday the 19th April. the venue will be confirmed at the next meeting. (Tuesday 6th February) Following a discussion it was decided that the cost of the Semi’s (Hall hire and Shuttles) will be shared between the 2 participating teams and the Finals will be paid for By the Association. We ask that ALL League and Mallet Cup trophies be returned to Clayton ASAP. You can find his contact information on the Committee Page.

I spoke about advertising Badminton better on the Island, Flyers, photography, etc. This being said I will be publishing events ahead of time, hopefully giving the general public enough notice to pop in and watch some games, hopefully further driving the sports popularity.

There will soon be a further post in the County Badminton section with information about the goings on with all county teams.

League Badminton Is Back!

League will start shortly after the New Year! If you’d like to play please contact your club secretary as soon as possible. If you however don’t belong to a club and would like to find out who is playing where and get involved please see our Clubs page.

Please get your names in ASAP as the number of teams in each club have to be in by the 17th of December.

Website Updates

Dear visitor,

As you may have noticed, the website has had very little content since Covid came along and disrupted 2019/20 badminton season and put badminton activities on the Island into the void.

In preparation for what will hopefully be a healthier 2024 for the badminton community, the next couple of months will see an effort to refresh the site and bring updated and useful information for those playing and/or interested in playing on the Island.

The core software the website operates on had been updated today as it was a couple of years out of date, but as a result the old template which controlled the overall look of the website is obsolete and has been removed. It will take some time to build a new look and some formatting in old content may now be broken.

If you have suggestions for features you would like to see on the website in future, please direct them to Jack Isaacs, who is on the IWBA committee.

The Facebook group has remained active throughout though and is currently the best place to look for the latest news and events.

B.E.SUMMER COMPETITION

Badminton England is organising an inter club competition this summer to encourage a return to team competition. If any club wishes to enter, the details and entry form are attached.

Dear All

I hope you are well.

We are launching a new Summer Team Cup to try and support players and clubs, who are able to play, to get some competitive match play. With the regular season still several months away we want to get encourage players and teams back together on court through the summer months to motivate players at club nights and training sessions. This is also be an ideal opportunity for county players and squads, and I hope by counties making their players and clubs aware of the Summer Team Cup, and sharing details on how to enter, we can ensure as many players return to county and league badminton as soon as possible.

It’s free to enter, open to anyone, for teams of 4 players (2 men and 2 women). We are pleased to announce that Babolat have partnered with the new competition and provided 200 dozen shuttles for teams in a prize draw to celebrate the launch of their new hybrid shuttle! The new hybrid shuttle is a blend of feathers with a nylon skirt to provide a more durable and affordable shuttle than standard feather shuttles, but with feather shuttle flight quality. Regardless of what games you appreciate watching, whether it’s football, baseball, hockey, horse racing, or even esports, there are a lot of wagering potential open doors out there for you to exploit. You can discover here where you can place your wagers.

To find out more and enter a team go to https://www.badmintonengland.co.uk/summer-team-cup

 Entry closes 30th June

 Kind Regards

Mark

League Season 20/21

Hi all,
I Hope this letter finds you well and coping with the uncertain times we have been through
and are facing.
As we have seen with a lot of sports lately, we believe we should start to make plans for the
return of league badminton. These plans will always be subject to change and in accordance
with the Government and badminton England guidelines.
As you will be aware, in normal times each club should be advising me of the number of
teams they will be entering by the end of this Sunday 30th August. This will not be
happening and I will now advise you of the new structure for this season.
As a committee we have made the decision to delay the forthcoming season. So, to cope
with the reduced timescale we will set the amount of divisions to 4 or 5 (depending on the
number of teams entering) thus resulting in less matches to play per team.

Dates for the Forthcoming Season
This year’s season will begin, week commencing Monday 18th January 2021 (Guidelines
allowing).
I will be needing the number of teams each club will be entering into the 20/21 season by
13th December 2020.
I will be emailing out club details forms in the coming months but I do understand that some
clubs may struggle with details as they still have little idea of when they will be allowed to
return to normal play.
I do ask for all clubs to contact me if there is any change to their current hall availability
status so I can continue to plan for the forthcoming season.
Many thanks,
Clayton Simpson.
(League Secretary)
